Owner, Head Personal Trainer
Rick, the proud co-owner of Black Bear Fitness since 1998, is a lifetime fitness enthusiast. With over 17 years of experience, Rick specializes in customized flexibility, balance and strength training programs. Certifications include NSCA Personal Training, Yoga 200 Hour Training, USA Weight Lifting, USAPL Power Lifting, CrossFit Level 1 and Tai Yoga Massage. He also offers a Private Assisted Stretch Program.

Becca has worked exclusively for Black Bear Fitness since 2003. Consistently helping her clients achieve their lifestyle & fitness goals, Becca offers individually customized 30-45-60 Minute 1-on-1 PT, Buddy PT, Group PT Classes & Private In Home PT. Results, client dedication, schedule flexibility and an approachable nature are just some of what defines Becca's Personal Training.
An athlete in both high school & college, some of Becca's accomplishments include:

-All-time record for highest single season batting average at both Hopatcong High (.570) and County College of Morris (.663), Softball

Becky is an experienced, fun-loving, and skillful fitness expert. Her classes and sessions are mix of sweat, stretch, and strength. She has studied many styles of training, and specializes in barre and body toning. She has been a certified group instructor for over 8 years and is consistently dedicated to guiding individuals and groups to a happier, healthier lifestyle. Becky's wellness background includes a passion for nutrition and cooking. She is a health supportive chef, a graduate of the Natural Gourmet in New York, a Holistic Nutrition Counselor at the Omwellness Institute, and has supported families as a personal chef. Becky has taught and privately trained in New York for the last 5 years and is excited bring what she has learned back to her home gym.
Fran graduated cum laude from Montclair State University with a B.S. in Physical Education, concentration in Exercise Physiology. She as worked as a personal trainer and health professional for over 15 years. Fran is a Certified Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach (NLC) from the Chek Institute, CPR certified and a member of American Council on Exercise (ACE).
Fran's philosophy and style of training incorporate the following:

Staying physically fit and pursuing new dreams and goals has been, for me, an ongoing life process. My Celtic roots led me at the age 10 to Hightland Dancing and at 14 to become the first girl drummer in St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band. Learning and performing Irish Step Dancing at 31 was great! Still being able to fit in the costume and dance after 28 years... priceless.
As one of the original members of Black Bear, my fitness level and I grew along with gym. At 52 I trained with owner Rick Leonard and successfully competed in a power lifting contest. When, after 23 years with Verizon I left with a buyout, it enabled me to pursue something I really loved doing. I took my commitment to good health and fitness to the next level becoming an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer and teaching a group fitness class.
I passionately believe "health is wealth" and exercise truly is the "fountain of youth". It is available to anyone who is willing to give it a chance. At 59, a mother of 3, grandmother of 2, I look forward to the next stage of my life, helping others on their journey to fitness, health and well being.

I have been working in the fitness field for the past twenty years. Personal Training is more than just a job to me, it is a true passion of mine. Being a fitness enthusiast, I worked for the Sheraton Tara Fitness Club for ten years as a Fitness Instructor teaching All Body Conditioning classes and Abdominal classes, as well as Personal Training. When I left the Sheraton Tara, I started working at Black Bear Fitness and have been with them for 14 years.
As a Personal Trainer I am committed to the health and wellness of all my clients. Helping people reach their fitness goals, no matter what it is they are looking for (feeling better, adding definition, building muscle, improving strength, flexibility, self esteem or losing weight) is a rewarding experience for me. I work one on one with each client to help you reach your goals. I am interested in working with individuals of all fitness levels who want to challenge themselves to a healthy lifestyle through exercise. I also like to remind my clients that proper diet, rest and full commitment to an exercise program are all essential to achieve their goals.
I keep my AFAA Certification current and also attend workshops to keep up with the latest exercise innovations.

Fitness goes far beyond just making you look good; it improves your health, well-being, quality of life, and self-esteem. I believe fitness should be fun, satisfying, and rewarding. Fitness has always been a part of my life , and I have been actively competing in duathlons, road and trail races for the past six years. I specialize in high intensity (H.I.T.) and boot-camp training. My personal training sessions are individualized to each client. When designing a program, I consider the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and personality. I believe that we don't have to put in long hours to get results. Every exercise I choose is goal-specific, effective, and efficient.
